This term Bike it Plus has really taken off at Acton High School! The winter term started off with a meet and greet with 6th formers in the Acton High 6th form centre. A puncture repair tutorial was also available, which is always a useful skill to have for those tricky situations!
The big Bike It Plus launch event was a visit from Dr Bike! Staff and Students brought their bikes in for a safety check and some maintenance, some of which was much needed! The mechanics and I got through 15 bikes all together. A number that is expected to increase greatly in the spring term, with many students eager to have their bikes looked at!
The best, and most exciting activity, was saved until the end of term. Members of the YTA and 6th form Bike It Plus volunteers were invited to take part in a BMX taster session! Students travelled on a sunny, yet cold, December afternoon to Hammersmith BMX track to try out their BMX skills and give the track a whirl! Coaches from The Bicycle Society delivered the taster session. The students, along with their teacher and Bike it Plus Champion, were not deterred by the cold and got really stuck in to it! They loved the new experience on two wheels, with most doing full circuits by the end of the session! The only way is up for Bike it Plus at Acton High next term, with lots more activities in the pipe line. Watch this space….
